Serial: What would it feel like to be wrongly convicted? In 1999, a girl named Hae Lee unexpectedly disappeared after school one day. Her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was targeted for the killing, and arrested. Her body was later found in Baltimore, Maryland, at Leakin Park. Syed was sentenced to life in prison, plus 30 years. There has been a back and forth misconception on who really killed Hae, but from evidence, Adnan is innocent. Adnan is backed up with key evidence to prove his innocence, such as Jay’s inconsistencies with his story, Asia’s letters, and the new DNA samples. This links to Adnan's innocence because Jay is lying about his story. This makes Jay’s story unreliable, and can not be used as evidence to prove against Adnan. As the case goes on, Jay is interviewed more and more, and he first talks about Adnan calling Jay to meet at strip. Then later on, he says Adnan called him to meet at Best Buy (serial podcast). This connects to Adnan’s innocence because Jay is just throwing different stories out to try and convince the jury he is innocent. The constant inconsistencies make Jay look suspicious and is one reason for Adnan’s innocence. Not only the inconsistencies, but the asis’s letters play a big role in the evidence. The letters that Asia had sent to Adnan played a big part in evidence of his innocence. In episode one, Asia sent Adnan a letter in which she says in it that she saw him at the library. This connects to his innocence because the time Asia had seen Adnan, it was the same time as the killing (Serial podcast).
