The new English Chesapeake colonies consisted of Virginia and Maryland and went through quite a lot to colonize. Virginia, the first successful English colony, belonged to the London Company, soon to be called the Virginia Company of London. They originally sent 144 men to explore the land for precious gems, but only 105 made it. These men consisted of gentlemen adventurers, jewelers, and artisans. They brought along no women or farmers as they were not looking to colonize, but to gather gems and explore the land in Jamestown.
There were many differences between the four colonies. For example, the new England puritans came to America, because they were being prosecuted for not believing in the same religious view as the church of England. There society was mostly hard working middle class people. They didn’t trust and feared any new person that entered their society because they were afraid of them being associated with the Salem witch trails. They relied on beans and bread as their main food source since farming was almost impossible due to the cold climaxes and the poor soils they had.
The New England Colonies and the Middle colonies were founded similarly. The Puritans came to America to avoid being persecuted and to continue their belief system. William Penn founded Pennsylvania (hence the name of the state) because he wanted a safe heaven for all of the Quakers. For the North Colonies they didn’t have to rely on growing crops because their soil wasn’t good and the weather conditions weren’t good for growing crops. On the other hand, The Southern Colonies relied on their soil to grow crops.
Amid the late 16th century and into the 17th century, European nations quickly inhabited the new lands called the Americas. England sent out multiple groups to two regions in the eastern coast of North America. Those areas were called the Chesapeake and the New England locations. Later, in the end of the1700 's, these two locations would combine to create one nation. However originally both areas had very different and distinctive identities.
Founder of Pennsylvania, William Penn, a quaker, promoted religious tolerance, a key factor to the social development of this region, seeing that it was so tolerant the middle colony invited a large group of people and developing a social class were merchants are upper class, craftsmen as middle class, and sailors or unskilled workers as lower class. Social development in the southern colonies also differed greatly from the other colonial regions, Because of the inhabitants of this colonial region, the social order was very rigid where plantation owners are upper class, farmers as the middle class, and then Slaves at the very bottom. One similarity the British colonies all had was, the colonist all viewed themselves part of the English
The colonies of Massachusetts and Virginia were a start of the new world for England. These were founded by similar people but, with their strikingly differences, grew into separate political, economic and social structures. Both settlements arose from over-crowdedness in England: people wanted a better life. Virginia was settled by men who were single and looking for opportunities and wealth. They were part of the Anglican religion.
We're going to be take a look at the differences and similarities of the British North American colonies Pennsylvania and Virginia in the 1700s. William Penn was the founder of Pennsylvania, the purpose for Pennsylvania from the beginning was to be a colony of Harmony. When William Penn founded Pennsylvania he created a Quaker religious imperative for the peaceful treatment of Indians. this allowed Pennsylvania to live relatively peacefully with Native Americans. Just as the Quakers wanted to live peacefully with Native Americans they also didn't care for slavery.
The early Virginia and New England colonies differed politically, socially, and economically due to the situations that the settlers faced. Throughout many of the letters written about some of the experiences of the earlier settlers, one can easily see a major difference in the way of life of the two colonies. Although many of these colonies differed in the way of life, each colony faced some similar things that they each had to overcome. These challenges made a massive difference in the way that each of the colonies started out and directly influenced the future for both colonies. When these challenges are faced, many of the settlers will create the foundations of their political, social, and economic systems.
Economy: In order for the colony to be stable, a crop that could be exported for profit and fuel needed to be grown. In this instance the crop was tobacco. Predominant Religious Beliefs and Practices: Virginians worshiped in the Anglican Church, which was supported by tax dollars.
The 13 Colonies are broken down into 3 parts, Middle, Southern, and New England Colonies. There were many similarities and differences between all of the 13 Colonies. Many of them ranging from their climate and geography to the role women and African Americans played. A variety of people came from all around the world to the 13 Colonies for many different reasons. In the Middle Colonies, there was a very diverse population.
The colony most fitting to my given situation between Virginian, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania, would be Pennsylvania in the late 1680s. Pennsylvania was becoming well established due to it’s powerful economic growth, cultural diversity and religion, and change in slavery.
Something that had one of the biggest impacts on the world as it is today is colonization. There’s no way that the world we live in would be the same without it. From colonization, a multitude of good things came out of it, such as wealth for many nations, new land discovered, and colonies established. However, all of those things came at a price to others. The negatives of colonization affected the Native Americans (North, South, and Central America) and the Africans.
The first English colonies were poorly prepared for the New World and the challenges it brought. They had very little food, resources, and lay of the land. They were ill prepared to face the direct threats of illness, natives, and famine which led to many deaths and even a few failed colonies. The colonies had to adapt to their environment and make the most of their specific region to ensure that their own people thrived from a literal and economic standpoint. However different colonies had settle for different reasons, such as the northern colonies being more religion oriented than the trade routing southern colonies.
Early American colonies were the base of what it is now known the United States of America. Although almost all of the colonies were from the same time period each colony differed from each other. Some of the colonies differed by their economic system and also by their way of running their colony, their government. Also, the colonies differed from their culture and their way they lived. In addition, the New England and the Chesapeake colonies were not the exception they also differed from each other.
While the colonization of the America’s was negative for many reasons such as the spread of illnesses, and the forcing of religion upon natives, it was also beneficial to the Native’s because it allowed them to have better weapons and to have different foods and goods in their lives. The Europeans exposed the Natives to many new diseases once they colonized the new areas they discovered. The Europeans greatly impacted the family life and religion of the inhabitants of the areas they found. There was also a lot of exchange going on during the conquest of the Americas because the Natives were excited by the new gadgets they had never seen before that the Europeans brought over.
