This policy was enforced by Mao Zedong, whose idea was originally to increase China's population. Due to China overpopulating, Mao created the idea which is known as the "one child policy". This policy controlled China's population, but also created lots of negative effects and issues such as additional effect on fertility rate, rise of sex ratio at birth, and cause of mental and social issues for children.
