Growing up in a household with four men led to competitiveness throughout the entire family. Every little thing was made into a competition. Whether it be running up the stairs or finishing the dishes, there was always a winner. Of all the competitions among my family though, none were greater than the ones between Josef and me. As my older brother, he taught me more about life than anyone else ever has. Through his actions and words my older brother Josef has truly had a significant impact on my life. "I think we're done" I shout as my brother pushes the Toro lawnmower over the freshly cut green grass. He ignores me and proceeds to go over the same patch of grass as if it was his first time going over that section. He continues this process until it would seem like a miracle for a single blade of grass to be missed. My brother did just that but in a way that most wouldn't expect. The man was about as humble as could be and because of that spoke very few words. When Josef spoke, everyone in the room would listen because it was a rarity and he usually had something good to say. Rather than his words having a significant impact on my life, it was his lack of words that really stood out. He would never boast and hated to be in the spotlight. The worst moment in his life was when he broke the school record for cross country because he absolutely dreaded all of the attention. It was quite comical to see how enraged he got over something that you would think he would be ecstatic over. He worked extremely hard to earn that record and wanted no attention whatsoever. Josef has always demonstrated this through his entire life and continues to do so. His actions and words are truly inspiring and will continue to have a significant impact on my
