Most teenage girls fall in love so easy, and end up with their hearts shattered in the next couple days. When they are going through these types of situations, girls often overthink everything, and they always chase the ones who are not worth the time. In the poem, Advice to a Girl by Sara Teasdale, the author talks about a young girl who is emotionally torn after losing the one she thought she loved. “No one worth possessing, can be quite possessed…” (Line 1). This line in the poem sets up the idea that the girl is super eager to stay in a relationship with a toxic person The author uses the psychological lens throughout the poem as the narrator explains to a young lady, how to overcome the heartbreak. The first example of the psychological lens is, “This truth, this hard and precious stone…” (line 5). This quote is a splendid example because the author use this line to show that the narrator repeatedly is reassuring the child that it will all be alright. This quote also ties in with line one. These two lines go hand-in-hand because in line one, the narrator is telling the girl the “truth” that in this situation, her guy is not worth any of her time. This relates back to the main element and shows that this child has been very emotional over her break up and the narrator wants her to be happy. The narrator wants the girl to be strong and carry on. The hot cheek part of the quote is showing that the girl has been crying for quite some time because her cheeks are hot.
