The term minority involves African Americans that live in the United States. Although our laws have been designed to provide a equal life for minorities, our government has failed to ensure fair opportunities for all black people.
Brilliant black students are failing to thrive in the school system. Often being neglected and not given the opportunity to start college or even finish high school. The question should be why or how this is happening? Those students who do succeed and move forward in their education of found a means of integrating in a white dominated culture. The unfortunate reality is that the urban society as isolated intelligent black students from thriving.
Wesley Proctor conducted a study to further understand why Black students would leave school and what leads them to persist to graduation. The analysis was done with a group of black undergraduate students. They study focused on students with an ethnic background who had an interest in the African American culture. 67 students completed a 10-page form that focused on why black students would come to college and why experiences they would have while at school. He explains how the education system isn’t pushing the young people of American. That they are settling in a safe zone of comfort while ignoring the reality of the situation that they are placed in. Those students should strive to better themselves way before they are gets accepted into college and that schools should instill this excitement into their students.
