Alcohol Persuasive Speech

I am seventeen years old.
Stating the obvious, I am not old enough to drink alcohol. Why there is legal action toward drinking at my age, I will never know. In most cases, the courts made drinking illegal for minors under the age of 21 because we aren’t responsible enough. We don’t have the sets of skills necessary to understand the dangers of alcohol, but how are we supposed to learn?
An article from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism states that “People ages 12 through 20 drink 11 percent of all alcohol consumed in the United States. Although youth drink less often than adults do, when they do drink, they drink more.” What does that prove you might ask? That statement alone is what’s wrong with the law on alcohol. It does not work. If that many minors are drinking alcohol illegally, then why even keep the law? It is costing the government countless amounts of money to try and stop teens from drinking, despite the fact that it really isnt working. I find it truly hysterical that once you become 18, you can borrow 100 thousand dollars from student loans, (which, by the way, will more times than not end you up in some major debt) or join the army and fight to death for our country, but you can’t have a beer. …show more content…

“Alcohol impairs you physically, and in turn, it will relax your judgement and you may do something stupid.” Yes, that does happen, but the point I’m trying to make, is that despite it being bad for you, it shouldn’t be illegal. Soda is way worse than alcohol, in a sense that it trashes your liver and heart, and a can of CocaCola can dissolve rust, yet they are still legal, and in a hefty supply. The only reason I think that soda is still legal, despite its il health effects, is money. The soda industry brings in billions of dollars, and they arent going out of business anytime
