How Great Was Alexander the Great? Alexander the Great was the son of Phillip II who was assassinated after conquering the Greeks. Alexander became king at the age of 20 and right away began to expand. He began by crushing a Greek revolt in Thebes and gained the respect from the rest of the Greeks not to rebel.
He was known and still is known as Alexander the Great, till today. To say, Alexander’s empire was 2,000,000 square miles (Document E) after his death and it took him 11 years (Document E) to build his empire (took so much time). Unfortunately, his empire held together only for 10 years (Document E) after his death, which was a very short time. As we know, he was a very intelligent military leader.
Alexander the great crucified two thousand defeated soldiers and sold thirty thousand into slavery (Doc C). Alexander the great was born in 356 B.C.E and he was taught by a Greek philosopher, Aristotle (BGE). Alexander's father was assassinated in 336 B.C.E and Alexander took over at the age of twenty (BGE). At the young age of 20 Alexander took over his fathers kingdom and went on to conquer over 2,000,000 square miles of land. Alexander was born in 356 BCE in the Macedonia kingdom, his parents were King Philip and Olympia. From when he was little Aristotle was giving him private lessons on politics, sports, and warfare. After his father shared his dreams of conquering Persia he was assassinated in 336 BCE. Alexander took rule over the kingdom and lead the army.
Alexander would have been a hero would he have lived twice his age. Plutarch notes that Alexander tamed Bucephalus a horse that Philoneicus gave his father as a present by and thought it was wild and untameable. Ideally, the single act indicated that Alexander had the skill of handling issues that most people think cannot be contained and this would have made him a hero (Source 1). Quintus indicates that the talk between Darius III and an Athenian exile indicates how magnificent the Macedonian army was under Alexander the Great.
Alexander the Great is one of the most famous people in our world’s history. He achieved great challenges no other man could do. Alexander himself said, “There is nothing impossible to him who will try.” His achievments prove this quote without a doubt. Alexander of Macedon was born in 356 BCE to King Philip and his wife Olympia.
As a boy, Alexander was tortured by the famous philosopher Aristotle. Alexander the Great was a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon, he lived from 356 BC to 323 BC and was born in the capital of Macedonia, Pella. In 336 BC Philip II of Macedonia, Alexander's father was assassinated, and Alexander inherited the throne. In what ways did Alexander the Great leave his mark on history and how did his accomplishments contribute to his legacy? One reason that Alexander was great was his military strategies.
Alexander the Great was a successful leader and tactician. Even though he was successful in these departments, we don’t see much of his politician skills being used. Alexander the Great, born in the northern kingdom of Greece, Macedonia, is easily one of the most famous people in history. Known for conquering most of what they knew as the world, Alexander accomplished a lot. From leadership, to tactics he used in battle, Alexander the Great was a successful man.
However, it is my opinion that he is a villain. I believe this because he could be an extremely violent leader and because he never fully reigned over one of the places he conquered/ruled. He is a villain because he murdered thousands of people and soldiers from different nations. Alexander tortured many of his victims and then he killed them.
Many might say that Alexander is a hero because of his bravery and leadership. People need to look at the bad side of Alexander to see him as a villain, so here is a great piece of evidence. According to Google “Cleitus the Black (Greek: Κλεῖτος ὁ μέλας; c. 375 BC – 328 BC) was an officer of the Macedonian army led by Alexander the Great. He saved Alexander 's life at the Battle of the Granicus and was killed by him in a drunken quarrel several years later” (type “who did alexander the great kill” on google). This proves everyone wrong that thinks Alexander is a hero because why would you kill someone if they saved you.
He also never lost a single war for as long as he lived and he fought tons of wars. Also he had a major city in his empire called Alexandria. Alexander The Great is a villain because he left his original kingdom forever after only ruling for 2 years, conquered innocent lands and people, and wasn’t good at ruling his own land.
One of the reasons why I think that Alexander is not that great is because he is selfish. This is shown in World Leaders: Alexander the Great when it states that he was determined to get the throne by any means necessary. He killed anyone that was heir to the throne and even his royal mother took part of it; she killed the baby of King Phillip II and Cleopatra, causing Cleopatra to suicide. He
Glorious men have graced the earth and have left significant impressions on the following generations. Alexander the Great suits that profile like none other. As arguably one of the most influential military leaders in history, Alexander conquered the majority of the known world, including large-scale empires such as the Persian. Succeeding his father, Philip II, to the throne at the age of 20, Alexander commanded an already skilled military, which he schooled further in the beginning of his reign. Even militarily significant empires had no chance against Alexander 's military brilliance and so he constructed one of the largest empires in history.
Alexander the great was a hero because although he did kill and enslave people that's really the only truly bad thing he was known for. But he was known for a numerous amount of truly good deeds and only one truly bad things. And in this case the goods out way the bad.
Alexander the Great was the king and renown general of Macedonia. He led the Greek army against Persia and used many bold tactics in battle. Alexander the Great significantly expanded the Greek legacy by conquering territories. When he conquered a territory, he would not force the locals to assimilate into the Greek culture. This is to ensure they would not rebel against his leadership.
