“No one heals himself by wounding another.” This shows that hurting people hurts other people. Both the original short story and the performed versions of “All Summer in a Day” tell the story of how Margot’s life was on Venus. While the stories are similar, each medium uses unique techniques to engage the audience. In the original text, Ray Bradbury uses an interesting conflict, descriptive language, and dialogue to tell the story and develop a disheartening mood. In contrast, the performed versions use sound and visual effects and character dialogue to develop a similar mood. In the original story the author states, “She was a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost. Now she stood, separate, staring at the rain and the loud wet world beyond the huge glass.” The author used very descriptive words to describe Margot. Based on her word choice, the audience is able to tell that Margot is not a very contentful and happy person.. In the video version, all of the kids walk together in the rain to the sun-beam room while Margot is by herself. -(0:48 - 2:47) In the performed version it is also very clear that Margot is not joyful. By showing that she is usually alone and not with the rest of the group. It is in contrast with the story because the other author focuses on descriptive language and words while this one was more visual. Knowing all of this, both versions helped the audience better understand Margot and the story
