I decided to come to Campbell University for many reasons. I am here to get an education, of course but there is much more to it than that. I want to be a Nurse Practitioner, preferably, women’s health nurse because as women we go through a lot with our bodies. For a long time, I never understood my body and sometimes I still do not understand it. My mother, was born with cysts on her ovaries. Growing up I have witnessed the pain she went through dealing with this. Later, I would find out that I may also have cysts on my ovaries. The pain can be so bad some days that I do not want to get out of bed. My mom recently had surgery to have hers removed because doctors worried that they would become cancerous if left untreated. I am a huge supporter of women empowerment. I feel like women have worked hard for many years to get the respect that they deserved for so long. Without women there would be no way to reproduce and grow the population. Women have changed the world in many ways. I also want to be apart of that change. We all have a purpose here on earth, it is up to us to figure out what our purpose is. I found this quote by Gloria Vanderbilt, she states, “ I’ve always believed that one woman’s success can only help another woman’s success.” This is true because I feel like my success as a women’s health professional; I can help other women stay healthy and continue to be successful in their everyday lives. When I was younger, I developed a lot slower than my peers so when other girls would talk about their problems, I felt out of place. I could never be apart of the conversation, mainly because I could not relate to what they were going through. I have also dealt with body image issues throughout grade school and junior high. I was overweight and very unhappy with my appearance. Health professionals assured me that my diet and being overweight may have had a lot to do with my slow development. Teen pregnancy has rose significantly over the past few years. Most of these pregnancies are the result of a lack of knowledge. This meaning that they are not aware of preventative methods used to avoid pregnancies and my job would be to inform young woman about the importance of keeping themselves protected. I want to inform all women on how to keep a healthy reproductive system and manage their overall health. Also, I could be a huge help to women in my family; my mother, grandmother and aunts. I have more female cousins than male cousins and I think that with the information that I will learn from this profession, I will be able to keep them informed as
