Literary Analysis of “All Summer in a Day” “All Summer in a Day” is a story about jealousy overcoming a group of students and ruining a girl’s dreams. The setting of this story is Venus where the children have never seen the sun, except for Margot who only moved to Venus five years ago and did remember. Margot was bullied because she remembered the sun when no one else did and they locked her away ruining her chances to see the sun for the next seven years. “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury incorporates the biographical approach by using his knowledge and experience of writing some of the best known science fiction novels and stories and the historical approach of his life growing up during the great depression in a desert in Arizona. “All Summer in a Day” is a story about a girl who lives on Venus and the sun is coming out for the first time in seven years. Margot is the protagonist in the story and she moved to Venus only five years ago. She remembered the sun and described it by saying “It’s like a penny” or “like fire on a stove”

Bradbury had personal experience with living in a challenging environment growing up “Twice during his childhood, in 1926-1927 and again in 1932-1933, Bradbury lived with his family in Arizona, where his father hoped to find work after being laid off during the Depression” (Gary). Growing up Bradbury lived in a dry environment which likely influenced him to make life on Venus wet and rainy to show how life was different than on Earth and difficult for Margot who remembers her old life and now has to adapt to her new surroundings. He was also poor and his life changed during the depression which also was a change he had to overcome making him even more like Margot who is living a new life compared to her life on
