Ray Bradbury and Richard Connell create the tones of jealousy and mystery to motivate their characters. In “All Summer in a Day,” Margot tells her classmates she has seen the sun and her friends become instantly jealous. Connell, in his story, indicates how Rainsford is determined to find civilization on a deserted island. They both have different concepts but overcome the same meaning. Margot, on the other hand does remember the sun and often talks about the bright light bulb that lights their planet once every seven years, to the others. However, there is a turning point when the children become jealous and treat Margot differently because to them she is set apart from them. " Hey, everyone, let’s put her in a closet before the teacher comes ! "
The theme in all Summer in a day is, treat others the way you want to be treated. All summer in a day is about nine year old kids who live on a planet called Venus. These kids don’t remember seeing the Sun but, One of the nine year olds named Margot was born on Earth and does remember how the sun looks like. She would apprise the other children that the Sun is like a penny or, a fire in a stove. No one believed her.

This apparent in the text "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury, a young girl, by the name of Margot, has an experience all of the other children envy. As the only one who remembers the sun during a seven-year rain, she has to deal with the trauma of being away from the sun that means so much to her. Consequently, the children hate her for this and treat her with complete disrespect and zero regard to her emotions. Bradbury displays jealousy's negative impact on someone's behavior and exposes human nature's tendency to want what others have with his use of pivotal moments.
A common theme that both texts include is that sometimes being or acting differently than others can lead to consequences. All Summer in a Day and Maus are both stories where the main characters were discriminated against. Maus was a holocaust survivor that lost everything and went through traumas. Margot moved from Earth to Venus, in Venus the sun only shines for two hours whereas Earth was daily. The children in her school picked on her, calling her a liar and locking her in the closet. Both texts show how human nature urges humans to mistreat those who are different and to carry resentment for others.
In All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury uses symbolism, similes and plenty of vivid description to show the hope the children have for a brighter future and their need for change. First of all the author uses the rain to symbolize many things, while at the same time dreaming is used to symbolize hope, and the sun is a symbol portraying each child’s bright future. Similes are also extremely important as they show the desperate hope and need for a bright future. Furthermore with these types of author's craft Ray Bradbury uses repetition. However it does not go along with hope as well as the other pieces of author’s craft that have been mentioned previously.
To continue, in the short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury, the young loving child Margot identifies as a lonely girl who wants to belong to a caring civilization where everyone cares for each other. Margot is a quiet little girl that wants to be appreciated the way she is and not recognized for her differences. Throughout the short story she seems to discover many bullies in her class. The author states “They edged away from her, they would not look at her. She felt them go away.
