Mathematics is the foundation for the modern world. Without mathematics, modern society would not have engineering, architecture or even computers. Society would not be able to understand the world as clearly if it was not for math. Math was very common in the ancient world. Euclid, a greek mathematician, created the same geometry that is learned in school today. He helped advance society further in math. However, math did not originate in Greece. Mathematics first developed in Ancient Egypt, where it evolved from its early stages which were practical and confusing, to the modern world, the more contemporary form which is theoretical and logical.
Egypt math is the first building block of Mathematics, it was there that math originated (Allen …show more content…

“For much of its long history ancient Egyptian geometry remained at that today’s high school student would find easily accessible” (Tabek 5). The main reason for this is because of the Egyption number line. Since the number line is similar to roman numerals, it makes multiplication and division much more difficult (O’Connor & Robertson “An Overview of...” 5). Another reason is that ancient fractions must first be converted to unit fractions, for example, two fifths would equal one-tenth plus one-twentieth (Allen “Counting and Arithmetic” 20).However, as time progressed and ancient math began to become more advanced and the ancient Egyption number line became easier to use (O’Connor & Robertson “Egyptian Numerals” 11). Eventually, the Ancient Egyptians started to make formulas, but some were not accurate. Nonetheless, the Egyption were either unaware of this or did not care (Tabek 4). Formulas are also used in the modern world, but are much more exact (Green 3). The increase of formulas in the modern world makes math easier (“Arithmetic” 6). Also, the use of logarithms makes math easier, because problems that would normally be impossible, become possible (“Arithmetic”
