The Greatest Generation written by Tom Brokaw is a well-respected book. The book is broken up into different categories where Brokaw tells the stories of individuals who participated in the war. Their life before the war and after the war. The first chapter of the book is called “Ordinary people”. This chapter is explains the individuals who had an impact on the war and went back to the normal life after.
The presentation, Generations and the Next America, by Paul Taylor, provided great insight to how our country will continue to grow and change in the coming years. As the United States continues to go through changes in size and diversity, so do the demographics of the country. With each new generation, comes new behaviors and patterns, which will force society to accept more behaviors and lifestyles. The changes in demographics in the United States is good for the social climate. Less than 60 years ago, many of the behaviors and lifestyles that are accepted and recognized, were not.
Zach’s Reflection Freedom is something we often take for granted and do not realize how much it can impact our life. But how did we earn that freedom and how do we keep that freedom that we so often enjoy without thinking about it? It is because of the brave men and women who are willing to sacrifice everything including their lives to defend our rights and Country. How do these brave men and women get treated after serving our Country is an important issue, which is where originations like the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) come in to help.
The Greatest Generation, is an astonishing book written by Tom Brokaw. The “Greatest Generation” is based on children who grew up during this generation while the Deep Depression was going on and who became adults during World War 2. There are strong reasons as to why Tom Brokaw considerers this generation great. The children, adults, and seniors all took part of making the generation great, most kids and teens and adults took an initiative of putting their own life aside to fight in the war, this generation had to be the be the greatest, by far. I state this, because this generation was forced to go through so many life changing events like the Great Depression, then had to face War for six years.
By definition, freedom is essentially the right to choose ;by action, it is something wanted but not always achieved .Freedom is the oxygen of the soul (Mashe Dayon ) and it seems to be feigned for and more important to those whom freedom is denied. This is shown in both literary works”The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass “and “Why the Caged Bird Sings”. From both of Frederick Douglass and Maya Angelou’s writing it(freedom) is important and longed for ,but how the depravity of it affects the enslaved is where Douglass and Angelou deviate from their similarities. In the piece “The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass” ,Frederick talks about the hardship and toil he’d gone through and spoke mostly upon the effort he put in the search for freedom ,from hiding books for mental freedom and hiding himself `for physical freedom ,HE shows more tenacity than we,who have freedom ourselves who don’t have much limitation and yet do
In the poem “America” by Tony Hoagland, the author discussed the American lifestyle, and the culture presently in his own perspective and opinion. I agree with his opinion about the people in America, and the atrocious reality that we are living in today. This present reality that Hoagland addressed reflects my view and my perspective not just about the people who lives in America, but innumerable people that lives on Earth. Hoagland, not just criticized the lifestyle and the way Americans are living, but also the materialism that exists in most of the people.
Another freedom important to me is being to enjoy myself without any fear of the government. In America you can do what you want as long as it is legal and can 't be punished by the government without a fair trial if you are accused of a crime.
Hope Winston Churchill said “The future is unknowable, but the past should give us hope”. Churchill understood that without the wars, struggles, and hardships that America has been through in the past, we wouldn 't be living in this free country with the hopes that we have today. Without the patriots we had back then, we wouldn 't be here today. On July 4th 1776 America gained its Independence from England. Everyday since then thousands of soldiers risk their lives for our freedom and to secure this independance.
In the beginning, our nation- as any new nation would start- got off shaky. With tensions high in Britain, casually spreading to other European countries, trade was difficult. Not only was trade difficult, but preventing rebellion from having to form a new government no one knew how to use was also a struggle. Though we had these problems, our nation’s people persevered through the hard times. Our nation obviously overcame the new problems we faced to become one of the strongest nations in the world.
Many immigrants came to this land of prosperity and the land of freedom to give their kids a better life and education. “ I brought you to this country now, do something with it.” (from the article The American Dream Lives On by Yasmina Shaush). I understood this quote because my parents also brought my siblings and myself to get a better education and I plan to do so, to make them proud.
“May we think of freedom, not the right to do what we please, but the opportunity to do what is right”, quote by Peter Marshall. I think that Americas Gift to My Generation is the right to have freedom. I also think another gift is the right to have the choice of religion. Speech is also another gift to my generation. I think America has a lot of gifts for my generation, but these are just a few of them.
Freedom Anyone in the world with an occasional source of internet has no choice but to see the seemingly outrageous news stories, posted weekly on events in the US. American’s have made their distrust in the government more than obvious, which in many cases, the government has provoked. The largest debate in the states today is the with the concept of freedom and where the lines are drawn between social security, equality, and one’s rights. Freedom is and always has been heavily emphasized in the development of the 50 states. It’s brought peace and war both figuratively and literally.
The American Dream was created for all to be equal with the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. A dream is a series of thoughts on possibilities one can attain, hence, only one can choose to believe in the American Dream and if it’s achievable. In particular, Steve Tobak’s article called The American Dream is Alive and Well focuses on the opportunity Americans have unlike others and that the dream is attainable by all who work for it. A book by John Winthrop called City Upon a Hill implies that all men are capable of anything if they put God first. The American dream should make life fuller for all, provide happiness, and lead every American to believe they can do anything.
Elders have lived long good lives filled with sadness and happiness. There comes a time when we must let our loved one go. There is a method where doctors will put your loved one to sleep and they will die a painless and peaceful death. Euthanization of the elderly is ethical because nursing homes are expensive and with the elders, consent alleviates pain.
Freedom is the great thing for everyone. Everyone pursue freedom. They fight, work hard to get freedom. When they earn the freedom, they will feel the sense of satisfaction, there is no more older, not one can rule your own life. Base on that case, Imagine that when you have the freedom on your hands, but someone take away from you.
