Every day we see and pass buggies with people in them; in today’s society we call them Amish. Amish are people who use no technology such as phones, television, internet and even electricity. In our society, some of us think the Amish people are odd. We think everyone lives the same lifestyle, but in reality, there are many different groups of people who live different lifestyles.
You may think that the Amish people have a typical day like we do. But in reality, we do not have to repeat the same old task every day other than going to our jobs. The Amish are called the “Plain People” due to their clothing and lifestyles being very simple. They wear very plain dresses which can only be a dark color, never a vibrant color that will draw attention to them. We Americans use clothing to attract other people. Our clothing is also very bright with many different patterns and styles. The Amish women wear solid-colored fabrics with long skirts and sleeves to insure little skin is showing no matter the weather and temperatures. Their dresses are also covered with an apron that clips on and they do not wear jewelry like we do. The men wear a dark-colored suit and straight-cut coats without lapels. They also wear trousers with suspenders, black socks, black shoes and solid colored shirts with a black hat or broad-brimmed hat. We see the women, Amish wearing white and black capes which are called prayers. If you see them wearing white ones, that means they are married and if they are wearing black ones that then means they are single. The women also do not cut their hair in anyway or style. That is why you see Amish women wearing their hair in buns. We also see some Amish with beards and without beards. Men with beards are married and men without beards are single. Both women and men do not wear any buttons on their coats due to military uniforms having large silver or gold buttons.
