Always running is a book that has its ups and downs and is showing us the way of life from a gang related perspective. If you read this book, you would find out about why people get into gang related activities and who we should let control our lives and who we shouldn’t. The book Always Running is by Luis Rodriguez and is told by a teenage boy whose father gave him the name Grillo and the story shows how he decided to go on about his life. The teenager was side tracked by those around him, and he started to do bad things. The purpose of this essay is to tell readers about the book and the significant of it. Gang violence is activities that happened because of gang members or non-gang members. The narrator says, on page 55 that “we spray-painted our placas on the walls, followed by AT for Animal Tribe or SSG for South San Gabriel.” From reading that, you can see the fact that he is official claiming a gang and letting people know who he is. The quote shows us that gang violence is starting to take place in the story. On page 57 in the book, Clavo says “Here stand The Animal Tribe.” The narrator and the other gang members have claimed a territory. The fact that they are claiming where they are going to station themselves has officially made them more a gang. If we allow people to control our lives, then we wouldn’t be living our lives, we would be living that person's life. On page 58, Fernie, the clan leader said ‘I want to get the tribe together and talk about guns and warfare.” An issue like this is real serious because him being a young age and handling weapons can cause him to get attached to those sort of things. The quote goes back on how gang violence is something that parents should to talk to their children to make sure they aren’t getting into gang related activities. On page 58, the narrator says “I mounted a fence which would around a dirt embankment, hoping to get out of the helicopter’s sights.” As you can see, he is hiding from the police because he doesn’t want to get caught. Now that he is hiding from the Sheriff's department, he is officially attached to the gang life and getting into trouble. If you read the book you will find out why he started getting into gang related activities and who his surrounding “leaders”
