"Remembering Survival: Inside a Nazi Slave-Labor Camp" by Christopher Browning is a powerful and very moving book that tells the story of Jewish survivors of the concentration camp in Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II. The book is based on interviews and experiences that Browning conducted with the survivors in the 1990s, and he provides a vivid and harrowing account of their experiences and trauma. Christopher Browning’s goal in writing the novel was to capture the essence of what happened to the survivors during the Holocaust from the perspective of people who were actually there to witness and experience it. He used the words of the survivors, dates, events, and knowledge of all his research to make an accurate and reliable depiction
Many people have learned about the Holocaust throughout the years, but learning about it from a primary source is a whole different experience. A scary journey that turned out to be the Holocaust has been told by two individuals that survived. These two stories tell the reader what life was like and what they went through. Even though the conditions were terrible, both Eli and Lina were able to survive and break away through fear, horrendous experiences, and hope that lead them to surviving and leaving people they cared about behind.
This book was mainly about the Blumenthal family which was Marion, her brother Albert, her father Walter and her mother Ruth. This story told us about how the family stayed together all during the Holocaust and what they had to do in order to survive. For 6 years the Blumenthal family lived in camps and one of the camps was Bergen-Belsen. For the time that Marion and her family stayed in Bergen-Belsen it was hard for all of them, all they got to eat was a chunk of black bread and watery turnip soup, the camp was overcrowded and it smelled really bad due to the guards burning the bodies of the dead inside the camp. Another camp was called Sternlager or Star camp where they were told that they should be considered lucky.

While she, her brother Fritz, and their mother are in the East, their father and other brother are in the West.
In the book Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys, theme was often showed through symbolism. One of the themes in the story was having hope even when you think there’s nothing left to hope for. This theme was everywhere in the book, because it was showed through symbolism most of the time. For example, in the beginning of Lina’s journey, Andrius finds a gemstone outside one day. He brought it back to train car and passed it around to everyone.
The Book; Prisoner B-3087, by Alan Gratz is pretty good. It’s a novel about a nazi concentration camp, and a boy named Yanek who travels from camp to camp, being worked and worked. This book is a little gruesome, but its a great read. Never once did I want to put down the book, and the story gets better and better as you read. The Main Character, is named Yanek Gruener, or as the guard call him, B-3087.
I have enjoyed reading the book Night, by Elie Wiesel. Elie Wiesel is a concentration camp survivor, who is using this piece of literature to break free from the silence that has surrounded the holocaust. Reading Night makes me feel as though I have been transported back in time during World War 2, in the middle of a concentration camp. It isn’t a wonderful place to be, but it is a special experience. The way that Wiesel portrays childhood in Night is cold.
Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys is a novel focusing on the life of a Lithuanian family being captures from their home and everyday lives by the Soviet police. I read starting from page 79 and read to the end of the story and was intrigued about the events that took place. I am not Lithuanian so I cannot relate to the culture of the story in that way, but the author of this novel is from Detroit which is a city I have been to many times and I know the culture of. In book log number one, I focused on how the characters of the story felt from the situations going on to them and the people around them.

Night In Night by Elie Wiesel the Jews suffer greatly because of the Holocaust. The Germans show great prejudice against the Jews. This unfounded hatred causes the Jews to experience a loss of innocence once at Auschwitz. The Germans forced them to become people they aren’t.
In Between Shades of Gray Lina, her Mother and brother were put into a cramped train by the NKVD and were being taken away to an unknown location. They did not know how long they would be there or what was going to happen but they were scared. Instead of being scared just sitting there in fear the entire train car started to sing. “It grew. New Orleans lures her in her quest for truth, dangling temptation at every turn, and escalating to the ultimate test. With characters as captivating as those in her internationally bestselling novel Between Shades of Gray, Ruta Sepetys skillfully creates a rich story of secrets, lies, and the haunting reminder that decisions can shape our destiny. If you read my reviews then you know I’m a sucker for historical fiction. Big time.
My reactions and opinions related to the novel Between shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys were conflicted. The reason behind my conflictions were because of the content in the book. The author creates a world in which the main characters believe that there is no hope for a better life. The setting and details create discouraging parts at some points of the novel, and then the author will make a point in the novel that makes you want to read more. The main character, Lina, portrays a world that she lives in that love is the only reason for the characters in the book to survive which can be confusing to the reader.
Shades of Grey ★★★★☆ Author: Jasper Fforde Amber Birks Imagine living in a society in which your social ranking depends solely on the colours you can perceive. Imagine only being able to see one colour, two colours or even none at all. This is the world we are introduced to in Jasper Fforde’s novel Shades of Grey. Following the popular dystopian trend, Fforde brings us into yet another post-apocalyptic society. However, Shades of Grey combines fresh, unique ideas such as a society built upon colour; supernatural flora and fauna such as man-eating trees and furniture-devouring roads; and peculiar predicaments such as the scarcity of spoons (due to a law forbidding their manufacturing), one's most prized possession.
