In Marriage as a Covenant from chapter two, Witte explores the meaning of what God says about marriage as a covenant. God created marriage to be between one man and one woman. He said that he “hates divorce”. He hates divorce so much that he will forgive the person for committing adultery if they agree to never break the covenant again. Despite hating divorce God will allow it under certain circumstances but if one does divorce he will no longer accept their offerings or worship. I think that this is a very harsh statement for God to say that he hates it but will accept it under very strict circumstances but it comes with the price of him not accepting your offerings or worship.
