Do you think you’re responsible? Responsibility is a big part of life. It gives you a sense of purpose and control. The story, “Priscilla and the Wimps” takes place in a school during the 1970s. Monk Klutter and his gang, the Klutters Kobras, terrorize the school. One day, one gang member bothers Melvin but Priscilla doesn’t let it get by her. The article “Fast Fact: Preventing Bullying” is about bullying. It tells you the consequences of bullying but also what we can do to prevent it. By reading both these texts, “Priscilla and the Wimps” and “Fast Fact: Preventing Bullying,” I think they should be used by the book club because they share the theme that in life, you need to be responsible and do what's right. “Priscilla and the Wimps” should be used in book club because it teaches how you should care enough for others to help them when they are in need. For example, when the text states, “Then, quicker than the eye, she brings the side of her enormous hand down in a chop that breaks the Kobra’s hold on Melvin’s throat.” This shows how Pricilla helped Melvin by separating the Kobra’s hold on his throat. People need to become more responsible and help put a stop to this issue. This is evident when the author writes, “Bullying is widespread in the United States. Bullying negatively impacts all youth involved including those who are bullied, those who bully others, and those who witness bullying, known as bystanders.” This example explains how bullying is a serious issue across the United States. Bullying has a negative impact on everyone, including the ones committing the bullying. The book club could spread recognition of this matter in their schools. Everyone, including teachers, should be responsible and take charge of putting a stop to bullying. Bullying has and can ruin lives and that is why it has to
