To be categorized a sociopath is not praiseworthy. In the book Rebecca, by Daphne DuMaurier, the late Mrs. De Winter is deceased and was extolled in Manderly for her charm, beauty, and intellect. While those closer to her were not deceived by her “show.” The front she put up for the public was not relished by those who experienced a heartless and controlling person. Rebecca could be labeled a sociopath as a result of being incapable of love and being termed a beautiful “creature.” A sociopath does not possess feelings or emotions which explains why Rebecca was unable to love. Not only does Maxim directly state that Rebecca was incapable of love, but Mrs. Danvers gave some insight into how she would play men by bringing them down to her cottage.
