The plot of The testing by Joelle Charbonneau is interesting because it makes the reader want to continue reading to find out what happens next. It kept me on my toes the whole time. It gives the reader a sense of what it was like to live in a place that once was the United States, but now is a place that has been destroyed by war. Graduation day is something Cia has looked forward to for a long time. She wonders if she will be able to further her education at the university. Her father was chosen to get tested as a child and she wants to be just like him. She doesn’t give herself enough credit for being smart. Cia has doubts that she won’t be able to go on with her education and she will have to work with her dad and brothers. Cia and her family go to the graduation ceremony and her father gives a speech about the work his team of biologist are currently working on to undo the effects of the nuclear war on the plants. Cia’s father warns her about the people she will soon encounter when she arrives at the testing. Some will act like they are her friend but he warns her not to trust anyone that she goes in with. It’s difficult for her at first but the test pushes her to her limits and endurance. Cia’s Father is a scientist in Five Lakes Colony. He wants to tell his daughter the memories of his experience and wants to prepare her to succeed. He realizes if officials find out about Cia’s advantages she could be in great danger and it could affect how she does and the way she is treated in the
