In “Testing in Schools,” an article published in 2001 by Kenneth Jost, an author for Supreme Court Yearbook and The Supreme Court From A to Z on CQ Press develops understanding standardized testing from grades 3rd-8th. Jost establishes the history behind standardized testing including the popular No Child Left Behind law passed in 2001 by President Bush, the supporter for testing he gives credit to John A. After analyzing the three interviews I conducted, each interviewee had different thoughts and applications to standardized tests. I want to start off by stating what each of my participants believes about standardized tests. Sara stated that “too much time is spent on studying for these tests” (interviewee #1, 1). She also said that as a teacher she wanted her “students to LOVE history, sometimes I feel that that got lost in the desire to have them all pass” (interviewee #1,1). Mary’s opinion read, “I don’t think that it is fair because a simple test shouldn’t judge your whole intelligence” (interviewee #2, 2).
In this article, the author Lelac Almagor, discusses the pros of standardized testing. She begins the article by sharing a personal experience of the first time she realized standardized testing was important. Overall, a student that Almagor knew was unable to get into a prestigious school because the school she was already attending (a school on the wrong side of the tracks). This school was not doing a good job of helping her reach her full academic potential even though she was in the top percentile there. The reason for this is because the other school on the other side of town was, over all, on higher academic levels.

Some of the most common standard test are the, ACT, ITBS, CLT, and the SAT. Alfred Binet came up with the IQ test in 1905. Then Frederick J. Kelly of the University of Kansas designed a multiple-choice test in 1914.
Are standardized tests helpful or harmful?With my experience as a student we spend to much time,’’teaching to the test. ’’Many people may think that the standardized tests are helpful even though they don’t know how much time students spend on all the tests each year,Although, standardized tests are harmful because some students are very stressed beforehand and during these tests, the tests are,’’one size fits all,’’ and the test can’t measure leadership,creativity,etc. First, when students take these tests they are very stressed beforehand and during these tests. Standardized tests have become of overwhelming importance, especially for high school students hoping to pursue a college degree. These tests have invaded the minds of students and educators alike producing feelings of frustration and stress. Educators become hyper-focused on specific standards and worry about whether their students are testing well throughout the year as these tests may reflect SAT or ACT success. According to psychometrician Daniel Koretz, standardized test scores "usually do not provide a direct and complete measure of educational achievement." According to the data developed from the ECLS, the more important factor in determining a child’s success on a standardized test is what a parent is. In my opinion, this does not mean that all parents who try to make education first fail. It means that parents who are more educated or have more resources are able to give their children. I believe this is a strange conclusion because what a parent is reflects what a parent does usually. This chapter discusses how a child’s environment is not a direct correlation to their success.
I think I do okay on standardized test, I understand questions on a test then a quiz. I think I'm a bad test taker, because I never really do good on test. Whenever I have a test to take I always have a good feeling about it because I have studied and I understand the task, but I guess when I take the test I always intend to do a bad job I think it's because I get nervous or my mind just goes into a total blank and it stops me from doing my test. I really need to work not getting nervous when I take test because it a big influence in my grades. I'm a good worker when it comes to homework, but test aren't my thing.

As our education system has noticeably begun failing our students, many people have put the blame squarely on teachers. Forms of standardized tests is multiple choice question, short-answer question, essay or mixed questions which most of them need the only one right answer (assessment, 2015). Especially, marking for multiple choice by using an accurately programmed machine is easier to checking and scoring answers, so the standardized test is popularity for many examinations and be used in higher education.
