Standardized testing has been an assessment tool that’s used worldwide. In the United States alone, standardized test are used quite frequently. It seems like every quarter for every subject, there is a standardized test to prove how much a student knows. Unfortunately, this test is not to be taken lightly. Depending on the outcome of the test ones school direction might change. For most students a standardized test means unwanted stress. A lot of students take time to go back over notes that were taken in class or review previous assignments just to study for the test. Although, there are some students that don’t feel that way about test at all. Whereas one student might feel anxious about studying for the test, another student might be comfortable with no extra review. …show more content…
If a student doesn’t pass the test there is a possibility that he or she will be held back, or will have to take a remedial course. If students do exceptionally well some students are asked to join gifted programs, or might be able to test out of a course. Standardized test not only affect students, but teachers as well. Teachers already have their preset curriculum worked out to a science, when testing season begins some teachers are thrown off. Teachers have to take time to prepare special lesson plans to go over testing curriculum that students will need. Some teachers can agree that preparing for these type of test are a waste of time. Although, teachers personal feelings about the test don’t get to interfere with the test. Consequences for the teachers could be the loss of a job, or pay cuts if students don’t do well. When the students don’t test well it is then seen as a reflection on the teacher, that he or she didn’t do their job.
