Life can seem to get you down from time to time, some sort of obstacle that you have to get over. But sometimes most people can’t seem to get over it so they fall into a pit of depression and bad decisions and they end up leaving their old self behind. From losing a loved family member or just feeling disconnected from the world. Most people would do almost anything to be the person they once were, the person everybody or themselves know and love.

A lot of people will try to handle hardships in many different, usually unhealthy, ways. Like bottling their emotions and keep it deep inside themselves and never let it out or try to drink their problems away. But that never works. Taking a stroll through the woods or a hike in the mountains can surely clear your mind of the negative stuff that has happened to you. Doing that can help you connect with nature so you can focus on the more positive side and all the things that you are grateful for.

This can be compared to Cheryl Strayed’s memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. Her life has spiraled out of control. Her mother died from cancer and she wasn't ready for it, really no one is. So she feels alone and empty inside so she tries to fill her emptiness with bad decisions like taking heroin, then being addicted to it, and sleeping with a bunch of strangers. She has had enough of it and decides to hike the PCT so she can take time to think and try to find her old happy self. You can already tell from the title that she did find a better her and that was the point of her journey.

You don't necessarily have to find your “old self” you can find a better you. A big improvement to the person who had to deal with the hardships of life.
