In the article Working at McDonald’s, author Amitai Etzioni expresses a very strong viewpoint as to why working at McDonald 's is hindering our youth more than it is benefiting them in the long run. When you first get the job it seems like a great opportunity to gain work ethic and become independent. However, Etzioni says that these jobs provide little to nothing in fundamental skills that are supposed to help them in the future, and it also limits their creativity and their room for initiative. Fast food jobs like these will distract them, pull them away from school, and make them look at money different. One of Etzioni’s quote that grabbed my attention was when he said,”These are breeding grounds for robot working for yesterday’s assembly
Teenagers love money. However, the problem with earning money is that kids are too busy to get a job. Or a job is not enough money for their needs, especially in this changing economy. Jeffrey Selingo, in his piece “Why More Teenagers and College Students Need to Work While in School,” argues that more kids should work while pursuing their education. He expresses the importance of finding time for a job, and that making money is not the only thing teenagers gain from a job.
First, I totally support Etzioni’s idea that education is very important and that students should concentrate on their students because working can undermine school attendance and involvement. Etzioni made a very strong and convincing point that working in McDonald 's is not good. Etzioni refers to "The Founding Fathers" in paragraph 3 as the advantages of working in McDonald’s that they can instill work ethics such as drive and self-reliance to students but these jobs can also undermine school attendance and involvement. Yes, I totally agree that working will consume a lot of time that students need for their studies. My
The McDonaldization of Society is a book written by George Ritzer. Just how people have created the terms “Snapchatted” or “Tweeted”, Ritzer created the term “McDonaldization”. He defines McDonaldization as “the process by which principles of fast food restaurants have come to dominate virtually every aspect of society. McDonald's has grabbed people’s attention since the 1950s for its convenience and affordability. McDonaldization is an example of Rationalization.
I believe that in today’s society, teenagers experiences luck in waking up every morning with a place to stay, eating approximately three meals a day and getting an education to better their future. As a result,
Do you ever think about the lasting effects that Mcdonald's is doing to your body? Mcdonald's food is damaging your body because of all the unhealthy calories and salt that is causing obesity in America . I had one very important question about Mcdonald’s and that would be “ What is the food doing to our body?”
He was leaning against the side of the tiny aero clubhouse as she turned the car around in the parking lot. He gave her a cheerful wave. Drops of water from the late morning freak rain event fell from his wet hair. She watched him as he stood upright and shook the small backpack higher on his back.
Having a job teaches you responsibility, and you will understand the value of a dollar. Instead of asking your parents over and over to get the new iPhone 14 Pro, you can understand that that isn’t always possible and that it’s not so easy. Studies show that giving children tasks to complete at a young age also helps create a solid work ethic while developing self-reliance and other necessary life skills. But you must be thinking "Jobs may be too much work for young children, and it may interfere with school" There are ways and laws around this. In South Australia, there are laws saying that kids who work must only work on weekends and holidays.
Many teenagers are students that take twelve hours shift on weekends. Students’ works for the fast food companies as telemarketers and in shopping malls. Statistics reveal that around 70 percent of hired workers at fast food restaurants are no more than 20 years. Only one- third of the employees have college experience. The facts also reveal that the companies do not provide other employee benefits to the fast food workers.
As people have issues about Mcdonalds’ low food quality toward people’s health. However, there is another important area that we have to consider seriously about is how its system, so-called “Mcdonaldization”has influenced and continuously effecting our society. From the article “McJobs: Mcdonaldization and the Workplace” by George Ritzer, he distributes the idea of how Mcdonaldized system has changed our society into scripted and “programmized” places (Ritzer 1998:140). He has specifically analyzed the McJobs’( job that has been Mcdonaldized) into four elements, which is its efficiency, calculation, prediction and control. As the nature of the world is made of a full of colors, diverse opinions of people naturally exist toward the term
The summer is a long break for most kids so many people wonder what is the best way for them to spend it. In Ben Sasse's opinion piece, "What to do with the Kids This Summer? Put 'Em to Work", he makes it clear that a teenager, among other things, should get a summer job in order to cultivate the necessary traits to become a successful adult. As a teenager myself with my own set of personal experiences and observances, I agree with Sasse's view that summer employment is the best way to build self-reliance among teenagers and that travel for kids is beneficial. I agree with Ben Sasse's claim that hard and meaningful work is vital to the development of a teeanger because it cultivates the traits of a successful adult, as seen in my own life.
My family headed to McDonald's to celebrate a day of hard work, one member short. I hadn’t earned the right for a treat. I profoundly regretted every decision I had made that morning. I had begged and pleaded with my dad, like a madman. None of my best efforts had any effect.
Receiving my first job was a huge mile stone in life, as it is for any teen. The feeling was equivalent to learning how to tie a shoe and being picked first for kickball. It was basically a moment where I truly became aware that I was growing up, that “this was it” I was finally going to cut the ties and become my own provider and finally prove myself and others, that I was capable of handling the so called “Real World”. However, upon entering my first job, most teenagers were unaware the of the reasonability that came with it. It was pretty much treated like a last period class, “as long as you show up you pass” kind of deal.
It has become highly popular for teenagers to go to school and work during the week to develop independence and skill. It is very likely that the parents of teenager’s inforce the job experience upon them in order to show them responsibility and teach them personal growth along with time management before college. With this becoming such a distinctive trend in America it creates a large separation amongst the Australian Culture. In Australia children can start working at the young age of 10. This may seem too young in America, but in Australia this is the prefect age to start and maintain small jobs and responsibilities.
He was like my savior; he had made the best food ever, warming my heart while I was a kid. He was so funny in his commercials, that when I got older, I wanted to meet him. I became a reporter when I got older he inspired me so much. Now I am a certified reporter ; I am the best of the best. I love Ronald Mcdonald so much that is sent him a bazillion messages and him sometimes being a meany
