In Richard Connell’s short story “The Most Dangerous Game”, Rainsford’s mindset on hunting changes throughout the story as he begins to understand fear of the hunted. In the beginning of the story, the protagonist Rainsford shows no empathy towards the animals he has slayed, even going as far as saying, “Who cares how a jaguar feels?” (14).
