This article is authored by Monideepa Tarafdar, John D’ Arcy, Ofir Truel and Ashish Gupta, and was published in the MIT Sloan Management Review in December, 2014. This article highlights the side effects of information technology on the organizations and their employees. This article is a combination of 14 different studies combined to make one article on the same issue; therefore it has a great deal of repetition. A survey conducted on 600 computer-using professionals found that 73% of them worried that if they don’t keep a constant connect, it would put them at a disadvantage at work which cause a lot of stress. The author highlights the issue of misuse of IT by the employees at the workplace. The author mentions that the misuse of the technology by the employees is a bigger threat to the organizations’ data than an outsider attack. The study conducted by the researchers has found that a sizeable percentage of attacks are malicious in nature, they include stealing of the corporate data. I believe IT is one of the most important issues of our contemporary world because it has had many positive affect on the human development but it also has some negative aspects. The article mainly highlights the issues with its relationship to workplace or work related. IT has not only had side effects on the work life of the people but also on the personal life as well. There is less personal social interaction between people and they mostly rely on the technology for socialization, which has had negative effects on our relationships and hence a cause of stress. I believe there was a lot of repetition in this article, which could be because of the fact that this article is a combination of 14 different studies conducted on the same issue. I believe the advances of the technology will help overcome the issues that are related to the information technology. The authors are critical of the fact that the organizations mainly focus on the technical approaches when they combat the problems associated with the IT but I believe it is important that the organization make full use of technology to deter the misuse of the IT while also educating its employees. I also believe that the stress caused by the overuse of the technology is real. The government and its agencies should formulate laws and regulations that are labor friendly which would bar the
