Assignment 1 1.1 Analyze theories, principles, and models of learning. People learn in diverse ways; over time a wide variety of theories, principles and models of learning preferences have been suggested. Some earlier theories tended towards a top-down, didactic (leader led) approach, whilst the benefits of student focused learning have become more prevalent as research and better understanding of neuroscience has developed. As everyone is unique and learning preferences are diverse, teaching and learning styles must reflect this: offering a range of approaches is important in meeting individual needs. Analysis of Key Learning Theories: Behaviourism is based on the theory that learners develop through positive and negative reinforcement. …show more content…
(500 words minimum) To be fully onboard with inclusive teaching it is imperative to understand the individual needs of the learners and recognise their learning preferences to fully meet their educational needs. Inclusive teaching will ensure that all learners have equal opportunities in the classroom regardless of disability and cultural differences and will therefore offer a meaningful and motivating learning experience for everyone. Recognising individual needs will enable the teacher to provide the correct resources, working environment and the way a session is led to ensure learners are fully engaged and motivated to learn. It is important to remember that to be fully inclusive environmental and cultural aspects need to be considered, i.e. If English is a learner’s second language, using visual cues to support comprehension and processing may be beneficial as well as taking part in role play scenarios that bring real life meaning to the session. Group discussions encourage diversity and open discussions in which everyone is listened to equally and with respect. Using learning models such as VARK (Fleming 1987) will support a number of learners that may not be able to access traditional learning styles due to various difficulties, Students who have Autism and ADHD will benefit from a well-structured session that is supported by visual cues and having the opportunity to be able to access practical, hands-on learning. Also, providing work that is linked to their own interests will help keep learners motivated. Breaking tasks down into smaller chunks will encourage learning as successes are realised. A multi-sensory approach to learning benefits all students as they have the chance to use sensory strength to make sense of what is being taught. Offering tactile, gustatory, and olfactory opportunities in sessions will
