For Andover students, the year does not begin in the brisk winter of January, but in the warm days of late summer in early September since those days mark the beginning of the school year. Andover students, especially those who live on campus, their year revolves around their school schedule rather than the calendar year. A student’s year has four fundamental parts: fall term, winter term, spring term, and summer vacation. Even though living one’s life through four structured sections for the next four years may seem like a daunting and lackluster task, Andover students know that each of those parts are a foundation for their year. With the exception of students in their Upper year, spring term is typically the least stressful term of the year. For Seniors, the spring is a time of reflection and celebration as their time at Andover comes to an end and as college acceptance letters trickle in. For Lowers, the term marks the end of their time as lowerclassmen of the school and transitions them from followers to leaders of the school. Juniors often see the term as a marker for actually completing their first year at Andover; spring term is the end of the beginning of a student’s Andover career. For Uppers, spring term usually proves more difficult due to the 10-paged paper they must to write at the end of their history course. The weather of the spring term designates the start of the most popular pastimes at Andover: lawning. Lawning is when students take advantage of the numerous green spaces on campus and use them to soak in some sun or do homework in a beautiful setting or just lounge around with friends.
