My purpose for choosing to become an Anesthesiologist assistant was predicated on my interest in medicine and the haste on which I would like to begin practicing in the field. It was my childhood experiences which spurned my interests in the field of medicine and it was because of these experiences that I became enamored with the prospect of working in the field. The one hindrance for me was the amount of time that it would require to ascertain an MD, as I feel my time would be better allocated towards working in the field as quickly as possible. It was here where I gained an understanding of the effects of health care and developed an interest in it. It was throughout the entirety of my childhood that I witnessed the effects of this on the people around me. It was through those experiences that I came to the conclusion that the most serious problem facing those in poverty today is a lack of basic health care. This is because good health is the foundation for well-being and without it, one is hindered from achieving self-actualization. As a child, I found that while a select few of my peers were fortunate enough to receive adequate care, most were not as anointed and suffered from a variety of easily preventable ailments. Preventable medical problems arising from the absence of preventive care occurred more often than not and it was the illnesses that stemmed from the lack of basic core practices like checkups which were commonplace in my neighborhood. This prevented people from working, which fed into the cycle of poverty that prevented people from succeeding. It is because of this that my goal has become to help those people in need and I believe that one of the best ways to do that would be to enter the medical field and serve these people
