Chapter 1 and 2 1. At this point of the novel, I feel a little curious as to where the story is going to go. I must say, I am a little confused on how the animals are planning on going though with their plans. 2. I can think of ways I have felt like these animals do in the story.
This passage examined emanates from Squealer’s verbalization in which you visually perceive him establish his astuteness over all the animals. Along with manipulation, he confounds his peers' through intricate words. When the animals repine to Squealer, he simply digresses or explicates the matter in a way that others wouldn’t understand. Squealer utilizes the word “Comrades,” to engender ascendancy, and acquire his fellow animals attention when he commenced distributing his message. The authoritative approach and advanced lexicon amalgamate to engender a theme of ethos.
This quote showcases the specific way Orwell places his words to change the tone of this story. For example, in the quote it says that pigs are “generally recognized” as being the cleverest of animals. Orwell could have said that the pigs are the cleverest of animals, but he did not. This causes the reader to think: what if the pigs are not the most intelligent? What if the pigs manipulate the animals into thinking they are the most intelligent?
Greed is a selfish want for something, sometimes it has to deal with wealth, power, or food. Yolanda shows greed because she embezzled money from Selena’s boutique. Embezzlement is theft or mishandling of someone's money that a person places their trust in a certain person. She stole from Selena’s boutique because she needed money to pay back her nursing school loan debt. This was not the first time this had happened.
“Don't judge a book by its cover.” A quote written by George Eliot in 1860. This famous quote is known by millions around the world. The quote says that you should not judge someone based on how they look or sound. Hitler said that the Jews were bad for the country, and they would mess everything up, so they needed to go, and everyone followed and believed him.
Comprehension #3 Orwell is man who hates imperialism. He is a police officer who is mistreated on a day to day basis. When hearing the news about the wild animal, Orwell had no plans of shooting it. He did not feel the need to kill or harm the animal. However, soon after realizing the animal killed a man, Orwell felt as if he had no choice.
Old major requests other animals in the farm to meet in the barn after Mr.Jones get drunk and falls asleep. Major gives a speech about how evil the humans are and how they need to rebel against Man. Major also gives some warning to the animals about how the men harm their farm and order them to do a lot of work. After Major gives his elaborates in his speech, he goes on talking about his dream in which he sees no humans on the earth. Major then teaches the animals a song called “Beasts of England”, the animals sang it again and again until they awaken Mr. Jones.
In Animal Farm, George Orwell warns how power will often lead to corruption. Napoleon was placed in a position of power after Major died, and he slowly starts to lavish in his power and become addicted to the lush life of a dictator. When Napoleon first becomes a leader, he expresses how everyone will work equally, but as his reign goes on, he shortens the work hours. At the very end of the novel, the observing animals even start to see that pig and man had become the same. The irony present in the above example, illuminates how regardless of how much a ruler promises to maintain equality and fairness, the position of power that they hold, will corrupt them.
In terms of persuasion, "Old Major's Speech" from Animal Farm by George Orwell was very effective. This is because he combines rhetorical devices and logical fallacies to make the animals believe they need to rebel against their current flow of life. According to ValenciaCollege.org, a persuasive speech "uses logic and reason to show that one idea is more legitimate than another. " The speaker will have to do this by giving a strong thesis/case, relay supporting evidence for that case, and using this to help your argument. In "Old Major's Speech" from Animal Farm by George Orwell, Old Major organizes his thoughts in a manner that allows him to be perceived as the knowledgeable leader and savior of the farm.
Animal Farm contains several pieces of motivation. For example, the songs recited throughout the novel are a big example of motivation and so are the speeches by Old Major. To begin with, the songs in Animal Farm are mostly used to motivate the animals to rebel, glorify Napoleon, and create a feeling of teamwork among the animals. The song “Beasts of England” is the first anthem of Animal Farm. Old Major introduces it to motivate the animals to rebel against the humans who as he says, abused them.
The political satire Animal Farm by George Orwell is a reference to the Soviet Union’s corruption. The quote in the book Animal Farm stated "There was nothing there now except a single Commandment. It ran: ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS” (Orwell 134). The lesson learned from this quote is that communism is not what it was meant to be. This means that communism looks good at first but always ends up being the complete opposite of the communist idea.
Animal Farm was an interesting book to read. What stood out is the connection between the book and events that happened surrounding that time period. The reader can get the interpretation that animalism really stands for communism. The society in this book was a dystopia.
Joseph Conrad says, “The scrupulous and the just, the noble humane and devoted natures, the unselfish and the intelligent may begin a movement―but it passes away from them. They are not the leaders of revolution. They are it’s victims.” “The scrupulous and the just, the noble humane and devoted natures, the unselfish and the intelligent may begin a movement” represents the different animals on Animal Farm who initiated the rebellion. The animals initiate the rebellion and become leaders.
Animal Farm', written by George Orwell, relates through use of allegory and rhetoric the details of the then-in-power Soviet Union. Using fictional characters to portray real people, George Orwell uses allergory, a type of metaphor, to teach people the dangerous situation of the Soviet Union. He used symbols and fictional events to convey the message of the story – that is, to reflect on the Russian Revolution of 1917, and denounce the injustice of Stalinism. A story of such depth then, is quite important to our society. However, many fail to understand the deeper meaning of many of its symbols and fictiscious portrayals.
In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, communism is proven to lead to unfairness and dictatorship through the better living conditions of the pigs, harder work for the animals, and the inability for animals to share their opinions. In Animal Farm the pigs are treated better and given more
