Imagine being trapped in a cold, dark cage unaware of where you are or how you got here. Tall mysterious figures stand there with a cold stare observing your every move. Then suddenly, you feel a piercing puncture in your back and soon engulfed with unbearable pain. Like a well oiled machine the cycle continues, with the agony getting worse with each following day. The scene you just imagined are some fates of the unfortunate animals that have fallen victims to medical experimentation. Animal experimentation is cruel procedure for the animal to endure. Not only that but, they are also an unreliable method to test products and treatments. Additionally, they produce large sums of toxic waste that prove harmful for the environment. Countless number animals have lost their lives each year through medical experimentations alone. “Every day 1675 animals are killed in the name of science in Victoria. Pound dogs, koalas, horses, mice and monkeys are among 611,631 animals, which died or were killed for scientific research in 2012.” (More than 600,000 animals die annually in science labs). Placing animals in a situation where they are susceptible to any harm is inhumane. Why is it acceptable to place animals through painful procedures and have them suffer just to benefit our own needs, when it would be frowned upon if we were to execute the same procedure on another human being. Some believe “They are smaller, weaker, or less able to communicate.” that justifies for our reasoning to test on them. The procedures that animals would have to endure range from skin and eye irritations to burns, shocks and more. We should not perceive an animal’s life as being any less valuable as a human’s
