Should animals be suffering just because humans are trying to advance our medical techniques? Should they be forced to eat? Should people be allowed to torture them this way? Do you think so? In fact, more than 100 million animals are killed each year during scientific and commercial testing, in the U.S alone. Since animal testing is cruel, inhumane, and alternative testing methods now exist, we should discontinue animal testing once and for all. For these reasons, animals should not be used in research or to test the safety of human products. To begin with, animal testing is cruel, inhumane and it violates animals’ rights. The USDA reported that in 2016, 71,370 animals suffered pain during experiments while being given no anesthesia at all for relief. This included 1,272 monkeys, 5,771 rabbits, 24,556 guinea pigs, and 33,280 hamsters. This shows that scientists don’t care about what the animals are going through, pain or no pain, they just want to advance in medical techniques, do their job, and get their money. Although humans may benefit from successful animal research, the pain, suffering, and deaths of these animals are not worth this kind of benefit. Animals and humans are alike in many ways. We both think, feel, behave, and experience pain. So, animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. However, in laboratories, after the animals are taken away from their habitats, they are not given a choice, just because they are animals. They cannot vocalize
