Nowadays, we live in a mediated world where violence, through the horrors of terrorist attacks, natural cataclysms, illnesses, and war shapes our behavior and existential essence based on fear. Child abduction and pedophilia comprise this fear and increase distrust and split between society and communities we live in. As the media and governments have a major interest in managing each moment of horror and shaping the way we perceive and react to particular incidents. There is on average less than one story a week on the children sexual abuse topic and cases are not covered in depth. Statistic on U.S. newspaper stories on child sexual abuse and pedophilia from 2007 to 2009 shows that only 2% of all stories were written involving celebrities names and the majority of articles were involving general information about criminal justice. As a result, when child sexual abuse cases are exposed, it is shown only through a criminal justice lens. (Bmsgorg, May 1, 2011) The crowns that we put on celebrities heads let them escape the law. Even if they were accused of sexual crimes against children they keep being persona gratissima like Michael Jackson, Jimmy Savile or Roman Polanski because of the outrageous act of media and power of …show more content…

A grand jury charged Polanski with five charges rape by use of drugs, perversion, sodomy, lewd and lascivious act upon a child under fourteen, and furnishing a controlled substance to a minor. Polanski was trying to escape the jail in any circumstances. There was ordered the psychiatric evaluation to determinate his mental problems, and a report was submitted to the court to get probation. After finding out about the high possibility of imprisonment he fled to France in 1978, just couple hours before he had to be formally sentenced. Since then Polanski was living in France and was continuing directing films abroad. He was traveling around Europe and even had a house in England. He was not handing and The United States government was not putting any effort to catch him. However, Swiss police detained him after trying to enter Switzerland, in relation to his outstanding arrest warrant in the U.S. More than 100 people in the film industry, including Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, and Darren Aronofsky signed a petition in 2009 calling for Polanski's release. On12 July 2010, the Swiss court rejected the U.S. request and released Polanski from custody. Till now he directs films and is respected in the films
