Summary: This source discusses how the school funding formulas are no longer creating equal distribution of the funding for public schools and it includes specific statistics regarding budget cuts and funding for a few specific school districts in Texas. There was a lawsuit that was filed (by school districts) because of this issue with funding and it made its way to the Texas high court. At the time of this article the court had not made its decision yet, but the hope was that the court would rule in favor of the districts that filed the lawsuit. Assessment: This source is useful for my research paper because it gives specific statistics about funding and budget cuts for specific districts and shows how the funding distribution is unequal. The information in the source is falls in line with the other information I have found and it seems to be useful information. This article came from The Star-Telegram, so I consider this source and its information to be reliable. This article is fairly objective; it lays out the statistical facts of the financial situations of several (local) districts and what the districts hope to have happen as a result of the lawsuit. Berard does make use of pathos and opens with a statement from one of Keller Independent School District’s financial managers which might suggest that he is leaning toward siding with the school districts, but the rest of the article is statistics and facts. Reflection: This source was helpful in that it provided the possible rulings which helps my thought process in determining the major issues with educational funding, but the source will most likely not be helpful to me when it comes time to write my final paper because a) the court could come to a final decision by then, and b) I do not know how much of my final paper will be spent discussing this current case and the ruling since there is not a final decision as of yet. If I were to use it, it would help shape my argument in regards to the current school finance case and what the case means for public education funding. It has not changed my argument as I do not know if it even has a place in my final
