In Hong Kong, a wife can legally kill her cheating husband, as long as she does it with her bare hands. In 2008, a Saudi court refused an 8-year-old girl who asked for a divorce from her 58-year-old husband. In Dubai, victims in rape cases can also be charged with a crime. These shocking and obscure laws around the world sparked my interest in international legal systems. English law in particular influences laws all over the world, and studying law in the U.K. will provide insights into other legal systems.

In writing research papers, l extrapolated information from multiple sources and synthesized arguments based on reliable evidence. Not only will these skills allow me to express my legal opinions intelligibly in a courtroom, they also ensure I will be able to convey arguments concisely while avoiding ambiguity in drafting legal documentation.
I have also taken many higher level social studies courses, including AP Psychology, AP Microeconomics, and AP Macroeconomics. AP Psychology deepened my understanding of human nature and decision making while impressing upon me the importance of ethics and morality. AP Economics showed me the extent of the influence new laws and policies can have on the economy, further developing my interest in international law. Next semester, I will take Advanced Economics: Globalization - an honors course with a focus on international relations and policy-making.
However, my most rewarding course is one I am currently taking: AP U.S. Government & Politics. It taught me that laws must be principles that can adapt to new paradigms rather than an unyielding set of regulations. Next semester, I will take AP Comparative Government & Politics, where I hope to continue studying and comparing international legal systems and the effects they have on different
