In chapter 7, I found the concept of punishment to be most intriguing. Punishment is a part of operant conditioning which was theorized by B.F. Skinner. Punishment is often confused with negative reinforcement. However, the main difference between the two is: while the goal of reinforcement is to increase the likelihood of a behavior, the primary goal of punishment is to reduce the chances of the behavior it follows. In 1938, Skinner concluded that punishment produces only temporary suppression of behavior but later research found that effects may be permanent.

Chapter 6 Question E In classical conditioning, whether we are human beings or animals, our first learning is acquisition. Classical conditioning happens upon the appearance of 2 stimuli put together, this occurs effortlessly and unconsciously. Having a personal interest in understanding human nature and behavior made the subject of psychology an appealing topic to study. During the course of my undergraduate education, various specialties were considered: theories of personality, abnormal psychology, and human sexuality, just to name a few. This broad exposure to the field of psychology at Colorado Christian University has only piqued my interest further. The final class, PSY 485A Psychology Senior Seminar, covered an assortment of practical considerations such as employment opportunities for a degree holder of psychology, ethical issues, and pursuing graduate level studies.

In chapter 7 the main topics that were discussed were thinking, language and intelligence. The aspect of cognition is defined as the mental activities involved in acquiring, retaining and using knowledge. Thinking involves be to manipulate internal, mental representation of information to be able to draw inferences and conclusions. With thinking there are two kinds of mental representation present which are, mental images and concepts. There are also types of concepts that are used with thinking.

In the movie Short Term 12, a drama about a foster-care facility for troubled teenagers portrays the emotional journey of the teenagers and the staff running the facility. A troubled teenage girl named Jayden is brought into Short Term 12 because her father is not able to deal with her. Jayden has a past of self-harm and upon arrival is disinterested in befriending the other adolescents as she is not interested in “wasting time on short-term relationships.” Jayden displays symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder as she defies authority figures and throws tantrums. Using the illness prospective, Jayden can be diagnosed as having oppositional defiant disorder as well as depression.
After reading this week’s chapters from our textbook, one interesting topic that was discussed in chapter five was classifying instructional objectives. When a teacher wants to design objectives, it is important that they use three domains and they are the cognitive domain, affective domain, and psychomotor domain. The cognitive domain involves mental operations from the lowest level of the simple recall of information to complex, high-level evaluative process (Carjuzaa & Kellough, 2017, pg. 136). The affective domain involves feelings, attitudes, and values and ranges from the lower levels of acquisition to the highest level of internalization and action (Carjuzaa & Kellough, 2017, pg. 136). Psychology is defined as the science of behavior and mental processes. The five enduring issues that draw psychologists together are person-situation, nature-nurture, stability-change, diversity-university, and mind-body. Person-situation answers the question: Are we masters of our own fate or victims of circumstances? Person-situation debates bring about recognition of how both the person and the situation determine behavior.
Good afternoon Drew, your argument on the strengths of investigative psychology and the weakness of the topic, have a strong structure to support your evidence. Illegal activity is something this particular psychology focuses on heavily. Moreover, negative side of this technique is that in history it has not always been accurate and even today it can still have its flaw in determining a criminal identity or finding them. As such you speak about terrorists that could possibly hijack a plane, this is great example of how they can stop a threat before it occurs, however this theory can only be supported if they have gather enough evidence before the crime occurs. It will also help in thinking like the criminal, but can also help the criminals
