It’s one in the morning, before dawn. I should be sleeping, but instead I’m huddled in the dark. My eyes blurry, droopy and dead. Sitting next to me; a pair of scissors that I thought then would do me good. You can guess what happened next… the scars remind me everyday. I had help, a friend. She gave great advice but the one time reality struck, the one time I needed her most she hurt me more than the cuts ever did. The fact she could without hesitation, or second thought yell at me for overreacting made me find for another friend. But with the other, nothing went differently. She also told me my pain was just for attention, and that I had no reason to do what I did. The way they reacted made me think about how apathetic our society is and how we don’t care about someone’s issues because we can’t empathize with them. According to PsychologyToday, apathy can be used as indifference. Growing up can be a very self-centered and socially limiting experience, and in extreme cases, causing young people to lose empathy for others and ignoring the needs of those they live with. Not only that,apathy can be used as a defiance, students become less engaged in school work and reject the importance of an education, ignoring their parents’ thoughts and how it will affect them. This shows how because of apathy, children today are losing empathy, because at their adolescent age no one attempts to solve the problem of apathy; which will ultimately increase leading to a stone- cold future where there really isn’t much good in the world and a lot of corruption because of how self-centered people will be. The education rate will also be low, because students are not empathetic to the needs of their parents and a society without education will result in no change. Our future society will become a corrupt place, with low education if no change is
