Archetypal Mind Set
The Puritans believed in God and the rules that pertain with the interaction with him. They thought that all humans were sinners and they were going to hell and they would never earn God’s approval (Siebold 2012). Religion played a major role in society; key factors of Christianity are to be raised with morals, to progress and work together, be respectful, have manners, to be good, and most importantly to have dignity in God’s faith. Only allowed to learn the readings of the bible the Puritans lived a very strict lifestyle. In literature there writing was very boring and dry because of not able to express themselves. The scapegoat is considered a person who is created just to be blamed which can be referred to Dimmesdale in The Scarlet Letter. He is to take blame for the sin he committed with Hester so she can take all the weight off her shoulders. In correspondence with Dimmesdale there is also John Procter who takes the fall for the community he is in. He is the tragic hero in the movie of The Crucible, who is duped for downfall and/or defeat. John was accused of relations with the devil just because of one person, Abigail who convinced Marry Warren to tell the community that he had dealt with the devil, finally had succeeded. He was hung for his crimes even if they were not true. The court felt that they had done what was best for the community.
