Analysis: The information in the article can be portrayed to support an argument because the authors conduct a study on the topic with real evidence and facts from an active college. Pieces of evidence the authors include in the article are the GPA’s of students and dropout rates of students taking part in athletics, as well as the winning percentages of past sports teams. Male athletes, who are on a team with a high winning percentage, have found to have a decrease in academic success when the football team is succeeding. The study was conducted with transcripts of students at the University of Oregon that cannot be manipulated giving the article credibility and reliability to support an argument. The authors also include different races of students and multiple years of GPA’s giving the study diversity and a wider range of data.
