If you are a fan of college football, I’m sure you know who Nick Saban is. Nick Saban is the head coach of the Alabama football team. He makes an estimated 11 million dollars a year matching and surpassing what many NFL coaches make. Many people of the Alabama roster seem to question why their head coach can make that prodigious annual salary while they do not receive a dollar. These college athletes that have practice every day and work as if they were slaves only get their tuition paid for. Did you know some college athletics bring in an estimated 9.16 billion dollars while multiple other schools bring in over 100 million dollars just in athletics? These students put athletics before their school work. Imagine if these athletes were being paid to play a sport, and stay on top of their school work. If this were to happen, the average gpa of a student athlete woiuld dramatically increase.
Many students say college is hard enough; imagine what it would be like having to deal with not having any time to study and complete assignments. It is said that collegiate athletes have an estimated 2.379 grade point average when regular students have an average of a 2.681 grade point average. This gpa gap is due to these athletes not having the time to study and complete assignments. Collegiate athletes have practice all year and have workouts and other things to deal with. Some of these college athletes don’t have a next level to go to and are usually not talented enough to be able to go. These athletes are playing their sport for fun and enjoyment, but it is very easy to lose focus and concentration when it comes to keeping up with school as well. Most student athletes will tell you it is very easy to become lackadaisical and fall short of assignments after having a 2 hour, gruesome practice. All in all, if student athletes were able to receive compensation the gpa of these athletes would sky rocket, and the graduation rate would increase as
