According to an article on Business Insider, “The 231 NCAA Division I schools with data available generated a total of $9.15 billion in revenue during the 2015 fiscal year,”(Gaines). Every year, colleges and universities are earning record-breaking numbers and the athletes that are actually working for it, earn none. As time goes on, people are beginning to realize how unfair that truly is for the athletes. It is imperative that college athletes receive the compensation they deserve because they put hours of a full-time job in order to train, it would act as an incentive for them to remain in school, and lastly, it would decrease chances of athletes engaging in scandalous acts and working illegally with agents.

These colleges use a large part of their money to give payment to the administration, which is understandable. The coaches for the larger teams usually have multimillion-dollar contracts. If the athletes aren’t being compensated like professionals, then neither should the coaches. The athletes deserve to be paid because of the amount of effort and time they take out of their days to train and prepare for games. According to USAToday, “Football players in the NCAA's Division I Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A) said they spent an average of 44.8 hours a week on their sport,”(Wieberg). This is 4.8 hours longer than normal work week for a full-time job. Since they work as long as employees, they should be paid as such.
