The United States is distinguished for its undeniably strong presence of culture every day. Youth, in many or all countries, lead the world with technology, especially social media. With social media outlets, it is possible for teenagers all over the world can communicate and exchange ideas. The United States is a leader for many world trends, such as dance moves and fashion. On Quora, I asked the question, “Are teenagers in China Influenced by U.S Culture?”.
I got various answers from people who have lived in China and many students. Many respondents think there are various trends in not just both countries but other East Asian Countries. American movies and music are one of the biggest impacts on Chinese teens. China has a tight “quota of 20 foreign movies per year” (Elizabeth Yuan, CNN.) Not only in China but in many other countries we see the use of common English words daily. One user writes, “People say ‘bai-bai!’ Intead of 再见(zai jian).” and “People ‘sowi-sowi!’ Instead of 对不起(dui bu qi)”. This example is how people in China are influenced by the ‘western’ world. Fashion is also notable in both the U.S and China. In China “While walking in the street you can see people wearing U.S. flag shirts.”. The American Flag is very important in the U.S and it's a symbol of respect to the country. In the U.S it is common for people to find clothing with the American flag on them, it's almost normal to see anyone wearing the notorious flag. Not only has the trend become normal in the U.S but also in China. The respondent says that it's seems almost normal to see someone wearing the flag for fashion. Another surprising fact is that according to one user their “teacher told us to write a short essay on 9/11 several days after the event”.
