Argumentative Essay On Airsoft Guns

707 Words3 Pages
Are airsoft guns putting children’s lives at risk? Airsoft guns are realistic, some even replicas of the real firearms that shoot six-millimeter airsoft rounds. Since the 1980s, technology has advanced and airsoft guns evolved drastically with more realistic features such as heavyweight and identical materials to the real steel weapons. Not only do these guns have an insane amount of realism, but the sound produced may fool those who have never heard a real firearm before and cause panic. Young kids who have yet to understand the responsibility that comes with owning an airsoft gun, expose this weapon in public shooting each other, and making others assume it is a real gun. There have been many cases where police officers have shot and killed children because they mistook the airsoft gun for a real gun. If airsoft guns are to still be around, the legal age for wielding an airsoft gun should be increased to at least 18 years of age. Many tragedies have occurred involving children with airsoft guns. Many officers cannot distinctly tell the difference between a real firearm and the replica airsoft gun. According to a Washington Post database of fatal police shootings, “ . . . police have fatally shot 43 people . . .” This document also states, “In 2015, police also killed 43.” With the newly discovered evidence, one can visualize how many families have suffered, and how many adolescents will never see the light of day again because they were recklessly wielding a fake firearm.
