Did you know that banned books have been challenged more than 10x more by parents then by the school’s board? That means that parents are trying to get rid of books for children even some of the classic novels. Kids should have the right to read what they want and the community should not be able to stop them from reading whatever they want or what is assigned. People should not be able to control a school, its curriculum or even what the kids read. Even when students choose their novels, parents can have input & monitor the readings to have discussions with their children.

There may be many occasions when people file complaints about a book for personal reasons such as racial slurs, religious intolerance or, even sexual references. made in the book. I believe that the decision to ban books as previously mentioned has the ability to shut down not only a book but a whole other world. Books are much more than words on paper they can mean so much to us it is like we have been in a whole world without the work of actually being there. That being said I still think people have the right to handle books for what best suits the school. But I believe the kids should be able to read what they want and good books the school may provide them like OMAM, But unfortunately some schools have banned this book usually for that one page with all of the racial slurs. “Ultimately, children can learn personal responsibility in determining which books to regard and which to discard. In the future, these children will become well -educated adults who can benefit the American society.” Reading these books can teach us more than what we read inside of them. To be able to choose what kind of book you like and dislike is a very important skill. This will promote personal responsibility and will help that child later in
