If you had the choice of putting poison into your body or putting nutrients into your body, it seems like an obvious choice, doesn’t it? The three main treatments of cancer are radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery. The three MAIN treatments, not the only treatments. Chemotherapy: putting poison in, hoping to kill the bad and not as much good. Chemo brings very bad and uncomfortable sickness, but not necessarily pain. Radiation, however, is an extremely painful thing that leaves lifelong side effects. There are other, more natural alternatives. These alternatives are going places, they just need more funding and research. There have been doctors that said if their husband or wife got cancer, they wouldn't treat it with radiation, chemo, or surgery. They …show more content…

That doesn’t sound like a good thing to go through, and it’s not. According to The American Cancer Society Medical and Editorial Team, side effects from radiation for head and neck cancer patients include but are not limited to: soreness/open sores in mouth or throat, dry mouth, trouble swallowing, changes in taste, nausea, earaches, tooth decay, swelling in gums, throat, or neck, hair loss, changes in skin texture, and jaw stiffness. Then, I asked my dad what side effects he experienced during or after his treatments, and even today, a year later. He said he experienced all of these except for earaches, tooth decay, and changes in skin texture. However, he added fatigue and fever to the list. Some of these side effects will last a lifetime, such as dry mouth, trouble swallowing and changes in taste. There are things to help with these side effects, like dry mouth spray. But other things like trouble swallowing means you have to eat slow and drink a lot of water while eating. With changes in taste, not as many things taste as good.
