Gun Control Within American politics, different actors have vastly different stakes in the brouhaha over gun regulations and 2nd Amendment rights. There are prominent liberal and conservative groups which stand on both sides of the issue. There are different considerations present for the Republican and Democratic parties, both on a national and state-by-state level. Finally, the stance of the major parties has had decidedly different consequences with regards to their political ambitions in recent years. In this paper, we will examine several of these key political actors and institutions, and their relation to the question of increased gun regulations vs. strengthened 2nd Amendment rights. Though the NRA still fulfills this firearms education role, it has, over time, grown increasing political. Nowadays, the NRA is a major advocate for gun owners and fights staunchly against any legislative attempts to restrict gun ownership or use.
