The question whether marijuana should be legalized or remained illegal have been a controversial topic for over years in the United States. Until now, there are 29 states in American have legalized marijuana in some form such as for medical use or recreational use or both. Many are not aware of the benefit and risk of legalizing marijuana because most people getting the news from media sources like television, newspaper, radio, magazine, the internet, etc. and they are not recognize media biases and untruthful information about marijuana in those sources. It occur when the author depicting only one aspect of a story and ignore other aspect. Bias by spin is very common and can be found everywhere in the media such as the news. The article “Marijuana devastated Colorado, don’t legalized it nationally” by Jeff Hunt is against the legalization of marijuana. As senator Cory Booker introduces Marijuana Justice Act to legalized marijuana nationally, Jeff express his personal opinion by called marijuana “dangerous drug” and considered as a sad moment in the nation. It’s shows his conservative perspective by objecting to legal marijuana. Throughout the entire article, not single positive facts about marijuana have mentioned. The author keeps indicating that marijuana is a “dangerous drug”(Hunt, 2017) and that marijuana legalization “marks another sad moment in our nation’s embrace of a drug that will have generational consequences.”(Hunt. 2017). In fact, marijuana makes the nation a better place. Marijuana can be used as medical purposes such as treating chronic pain, pain relief, and also very rich in vitamins, minerals and fibers. (Barna. 2017) For environmental purpose, the hemp can be used as an alternative way to produce paper and eliminating deforestation.
