As we come to try to predict the type of America President Trump will make out of his new election win, we question ourselves what problems we may face as a country. One of the great questions we ask ourselves is whether we should support immigration or not. While many American Republicans, like President Trump himself, believe that allowing immigrants promote unemployment among American citizens because immigrants take our jobs. Many republicans also believe that supporting immigration means that horrible people will be brought to the United States, however these accusations are not true. “The idea that ‘illegal immigrants are stealing American workers jobs’ sounds fairly solid on its face unless you happen to live in the American Southwest and notice that wherever day laborers congregate, there aren't a whole hell of a lot of white folks’” (Wendell). However, most of the high labor, low wage jobs that are located in the American Southwest are taken by illegal immigrants because these jobs aren’t even paid attention to by white Americans. If we look at the state of California and the workforce in agriculture we notice that the majority of the population tends to be minorities or even illegal immigrants. Some of these illegal immigrants are even hired by big companies for temporary/seasonal work. Afterwards, when crops have been raised and sold, big CEO cooperates end up calling ICE police on immigrants to deport them. Other times, they are deported without justification, “Kevin de León, president pro tem of the California Senate and author of the legislation [says] ‘It’s the absolute height of ridiculousness that ICE would come in and just deport somebody as opposed to that person having their day in immigration court,” (Medina & Bidgood). Although this idea of using and abusing illegal immigrants doesn’t seem very ideal or great, the profit made off their backs help benefit the US economy.
