Do you know where your food come from? Do you know how animals are treated in these so called farms? In today’s world there are many problems with our food. Everything is becoming so artificial. If you go to the grocery story you will see that fruits and vegetables no longer have seasons. They are available all year long. We really do not see these problems, as the benefits, or how good the food looks blind us. Know where our food come from and what it contains is crucial when it comes to taking care of our health. As stated in the documentary Food Inc., “there is a veil between us and the food companies”, which means that we don’t really know what is happening in these so called farms. Many problems were identified in the documentary. Some of those issues were how animals are treated. How they are looked more are objects than actual living beings. Food factories used to be good paying jobs. When the industrialization of this industry came, job became more repetitive making it easier to replace any employee, thus it was easier to pay them minimum wage. When one of these big food industries opens in a small town, they usually start by hiring people that live around the area. After they are tired of the poor treatment and working conditions and they leave, companies go towards cheaper labor. These companies use the labor of illegal immigrants, which in their eyes are more like disposable labor. As shown in the documentary, many companies advertise jobs in the outskirts of the US-Mexico border, attracting people from Mexico. Lured by the “high pay”, many of these immigrants come to this country illegally to work for these huge companies. Whenever these immigrant workers start complaining about the work conditions, the company simply calls the authorities to report them, basically getting rid of them and they are now a problem.
